    Iraq, Iran renew electricity supply contract

    (MENAFN) Iraq and Iran announced the signing of a deal to renew an electricity export pact between the two countries for a 1,200 megawatts power for Iraq.

    Managing Director of Iran's run Organization for Management of Electric Power Generation and Transmission (Tavanir) Mohammad Hassan penned the agreement with I Iraqi Minister of Electricity Luay al-Khatib.

    Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian further inked preliminary agreements with the Iraqi ministry on expanded cooperating in power generation and exports.

    Under the initial agreements, the two countries will also be joining hands on the transmission of power industry technology.

    Both sides signed an agreement in 2005 on the supply of 150MW of electricity to Iraq, with the contract having an option for extension each year.
