Tunisia seeks budget deficit cuts to 3.9 percent in 2019

(MENAFN) Tunisia is aiming to cut budget deficit to reach 3.9 percent of GDP in 2019 compared to last year's 4.9 percent of GDP, announced the Tunisian Finance Ministry.

In a statement, the Finance Ministry confirmed that it aims to seize more control over the deficit amount so as to prevent it from recording over 3 percent by next year, 2.4 percent by 2021, and 2 percent by 2022.

However, sources warned that Tunisia is experiencing a number of economic difficulties that stand in the way of the budget deficit reduction.

Finance Minister Ridha Chalghoum further stressed that "it is not enough to control the budget deficit," saying that the Tunisian currency devaluation led to a hike in debts.
