Egyptian exports down 4.2 percent in Jan

(MENAFN) Egypt's exports in January 2019 witnessed a 4.2 percent decline due to a setback in oil exports, unveiled the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Meanwhile, the deficit in the trade balance for the first month of this year registered a 29.7 percent decrease to stand at USD2.79, while imports fell 20 percent, CAPMAS revealed.

During the month, according to CAPMAS, exports reached USD2.33 billion compared to the USD2.43 billion posted in 2018.

CAPMAS explained that the plunge was driven by a crude oil export shrink by 48.2 percent, and a drop in food preparations by 13 percent and furniture by 2.4 percent.
