Tunisia granted USD151m WB loan for energy

(MENAFN) Tunisia is receiving USD151 million in loans from the World Bank (WB) in order to finance a plan to achieve energy diversification in the country.

Agence Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported that using the amount, Tunisia will diversify its energy resources along with generating power that is cleaner and less expensive.

Under the project, Tunisia is looking to back the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) in its efforts to boost the national electricity transmission network and start employing renewable energies.

Country Manager for Tunisia, Middle East and North Africa Tony Verheijen stated: "the excessive use of fossil fuels threatened the country's energy security and its local economy."
