Iraq seeks gas flaring wipe out amid major loss

(MENAFN) Iraq has set a target that within a three-year period, gas flaring from its southern oil fields will be completely wiped out.

This comes as Iraq suffered the loss of billions of dollars of revenues as a result of flaring of gas.

Energy Minister Thamir Ghadhban confirmed that "we are flaring lots of gas, especially in the south but at the same time, there are plans being conducted, executed to meet our objective."

Minister Ghadhban noted: "our objective is zero flaring in the coming years. I cannot give you an exact month or year but we have to know what we are dealing with."

Ghadhban further added that "with time, say by 2022 to be more specific, I would say most of the flared gas in Basra will disappear."
