Iraq, GCC ink electricity supply agreement

(MENAFN) Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will be joining hands on a transmission line that is planned to present an electricity import capacity of 500MW by next year.

Under an agreement signed between Iraq and the GCC, the 300-kilometre transmission line is decided to operate from Kuwait to the southern port of Faw in Iraq.

This is the second agreement for the Iraqi electricity ministry to secure for the country to strengthen its electricity supply.

Electricity Minister Luay al-Khatteeb emphasized that "this is the first deal of its kind with the GCC," pointing out that Iraq is currently in negotiations for power imports with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey.
