Funding for Syrian refugees in Turkey to increase

(MENAFN) On Saturday, Turkey called on the European Union to rise the funding for Syrian refugees who are sheltered in Turkey.

According to Faruk Kaymakci, deputy minister of foreign affairs and director for EU affairs, "as long as the migration crisis is there, we have to continue to cooperate, and we have to work together".

Kaymakci said that, "so far the migration crisis has cost us more than 40 billion dollars," he added that, only 2.3 billion Euros, or USD2.6 billion, in aid from the EU have arrived at Syrian refugees in Turkey amounting about 3.6 million.

Turkey agreed to support curb the flow of illegal migrants to Europe under an agreement signed with the EU in March 2016, in return for as many as six billion Euros in financial aid for the Syrian refugees, between others.
