Electricity usage in Turkey grows by 3.17 percent
(MENAFN) Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry's data showed that, in comparison with January of 2019, Turkey's electricity usage grew by 3.17 percent in January 2020.
Turkey's power usage stood at 26.17 billion kilowatt-hours last month while electricity production also grew by 3.12 percent to 26.27 gigawatt-hours in comparison with January 2019.
Out of January's total production, 27.99 percent was generated by natural gas power plants as 20.81 percent was derived from hydro plants and 23.84 percent from imported coal; the share of local coal plants in electricity generation was 13.54 percent and wind plants generated 9.04 percent and the other 4.78 percent came from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.
In comparison with 142.59 million kilowatt-hours in January 2019, last month, Turkey's electricity imports from bordering countries dropped by 11.05 percent to 126.83 million kilowatt-hours and exports fell by 9.72 percent to 227.46 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
