    Iran swims in gas

(MENAFN) Each year, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) deposits the gas obtained from gas refineries from around the country into Iran's two key natural gas storage facilities in Sarajeh and Shourijeh, so the stored gas can be used during the cold season in the country.

Sarajeh storage facility was the first natural gas storage facility in Iran and West Asia, and was launched in January of 2014 124 kilometers south of Tehran, close to Qom.

Sarajeh underground gas storage (UGS) is one of Iran's most tactical investments, for it supplies gas to Qom, Tehran, and the northeastern region of the country throughout winter.

There are new developments that led to storage facilities becoming such top priority for Iran, such as the improvements done to the South Pars gas field and the boost in the country's gas production ability.

The leading director of Iran Gas Transmission Company (IGTC) announced that 1.25 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas has been deposited into Sarajeh storage during the first seven months of the present Iranian calendar year, marking it as a new record high with 16.8 percent raise in comparison to the previous year.
