    Turkey: Enterprises conduct biotechnology projects

    (MENAFN) Turkey's statistical official stated on Friday, October 30th, that the figure of businesses conducting biotechnology projects has become 363 in 2019.

    The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) released that Research and development (R&D) expenses of the businesses in 2019 increased to almost 324.5 million Turkish liras (USD57.13 million), while the figure from last year was less at approximately 276 million Turkish liras (USD57.2 million).

    The typical US dollar / Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.68 in 2019 and 4.82 in 2018.

    TurkStat have expressed that human health ranked first among the biotechnology submissions and: "37.2% of 363 enterprises engaged in biotechnology used biotechnology for human health, while 33.6% of them for agricultural biotechnology and 26.7% of them for environment in 2019."

    Within the previous year, the most used technique was DNA/RNA with 214 industries. But that was replaced with "process biotechnology techniques" and "cell and tissue culture and engineering" where both were conducted by 119 enterprises while "proteins and other molecules" were conducted by 118 industries.
