    (MENAFN)

The output of red meat in Iran came in at 39,600 tons in the seventh month of the present Iranian calendar year (September 22-October 21), demonstrating 55 percent expansion in comparison with the exact month last year, according to the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI).

Beef and veal had the greatest quantity in Iran's red meat production with a number of 22,400 tons during the seventh month, followed by lamb and mutton with a number of 13,500 tons, goat meat with 2,900 tons, and red meat from other livestock with a number of 794 tons, according to the SCI's report.

The country is amongst the foremost consumers of red meat in the West Asia region with lamb being the most demanded.

Because of the prohibition of consuming pork according to Islamic law, the consumption of meat per capita in the country is about a third of what is usually observed in countries such as the U.S. and Australia.
