    Iran: Amount of imported corn, soybean meal decreases three million tons

    (MENAFN)An official with the Iranian Agriculture Ministry declared that, the implementation of a plan for reducing reliance on imports of livestock, poultry, and aquatic inputs, in a one-year project, the quantity of imported corn and soybean meal dropped off by three million tons and 400,000 tons, correspondingly.

    The stated plan has been implemented to alternate corn with other alternative crops such as millet, sorghum, triticale, vetch, soybean oil, and its meal, cotton meal, sesame, canola, and sunflower, declared the Director-General of the Agriculture Ministry's Grains and Essential Goods Department Faramak Aziz-Karimi.

    According to IRNA, Aziz-Karimi stressed that the stated plan has been arranged on the recommendation of the Animal Science Research Institute of IRAN (ASRI) and the researchers in this field.

    He also referred to some of the necessities for the implementation of this program, including allocation of seed and machinery financial support, providing foreign currency for the import of alternative seeds, contract cultivation to make sure the sale of products produced by the farmer, providing credit and facilities to the farmers and certain purchase of these products.
