    Iran: Output of shrimp shows 10-percent growth annually

    (MENAFN)23,608 tons of shrimp has been ranched in the province from the beginning of this year in the Iranian calendar, declared the director-general of fisheries department of Bushehr Province, in southwest Iran.

    The production in the stated time period demonstrates a 10-percent increase annual, stated Ali Bazdar.

    The official put the yearly farmed shrimp output of the province at 21,767 tons in the last Iranian year, and said Bushehr accounted for over 60 percent of the farmed shrimp output in the country.

    90 percent of the province"s farmed shrimp is exported to China, Russia, and Persian Gulf littoral states, which also to get foreign currency; it plays some significant role in job creation and economic wealth in the region, Bazdar declared.

    The country"s yearly shrimp farming is expected to come on at 52,000 tons in this year in the Iranian calendar, stated Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) Head Nabiollah Khoun-Mirzaei in September.
