    Turkey spanks social media platforms penalty of USD 3.8M

    (MENAFN)On Friday, Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) hit multiple social media giants with a fine of 30 million Turkish liras (USD 3.8 million) each for their sustained failure to hire local representatives.

    Sources stated to Anadolu Agency that thefine was functional to platforms, as required by latest legislation, that are accessed over 1 million times per day in Turkey, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Periscope, Linkedin, Dailymotion and TikTok.

    A new social media law appeared into effect as of Oct. 1. After the first 30-day period to appoint their local spokesmen, authorities had fined social media platforms 10 million Turkish liras (about USD1.2 million).€ƒ
