    Emirates reported a full-year loss of $5.5 billion

    (MENAFN)Emirates declared a full-year drop of USD5.5 billion, the first time it decreased into the red in over 30 years.

    The results underline the shocking effect of the pandemic on the carrier that supported Dubai turn into one of the world’s most important international aviation hubs.

    General employee numbers for the wider Emirates Group that includes dnata, dropped by over 33,000 in the year as its headcount decreased 31 percent to about 75,000. It held 6.6 million passengers over the year, decreased 88 percent on a year earlier.

    Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, the chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group stated that “No one knows when the pandemic will be over, but we know recovery will be patchy,” adding that “Economies and companies that entered pandemic times in a strong position, will be better placed to bounce back.”
