Freelance workforce growth accelerates in Saudi Arabia
(MENAFN)As the number of local freelance workers increased to the double in the January-June of 2021, freelance workforce growth is speeding up in Saudi Arabia, with the economy displaying more signs of recovery from the pandemic.
Figures from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development declared that the number of Saudis who had a freelance employment document amounted at 631,518, since the inauguration of a licensing program in 2019, up by 86 percent.
Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper quoted the ministry as saying that “People registered in 2021 so far have reached 292,315, while 282,766 citizens were registered in 2020.”
A consultant who advises small and medium enterprises in the Kingdom, Rana Zumani, was quoted as saying that a license to practice one’s skills or use one’s craft paved ways to opportunities. With a license it becomes possible for skilled Saudis to be self-employed and ensure a steady source of income, she added.
