Turkey’s marker of growing consumer spending increases 2.5 percent
(MENAFN) On Friday, the nation's statistical authority declared that Turkey’s retail sales volume, an indicator of rising consumer expenditure, increased 2.5 percent annually in March.
Automotive gasoline sales witnessed the highest yearly increase in March, increased 12.4 percent, however, this was followed by food, drinks, tobacco as well as non-food (excluding automotive fuel) sales with 6.4 percent and 5.7 percent, individually.
Between non-food items, textile, apparel, plus footwear sales recorded the highest increases, climbing 15.8 percent, followed by medical goods plus cosmetics, rising 7 percent.
Trades by mail order and the internet increased 26.4 percent from the same month in 2021.
On a monthly basis, Turkey’s retail sales volume increased by 0.5 percent in the month with food, drinks and tobacco sales surging the most.
Drinks and tobacco sales rose 4.3 percent on monthly basis and non-food (excluding automotive fuel) increased marginally 0.1 percent, while automotive fuel sales dropped 5.1 percent from a month ago in March.
