    Turkey sees 85 percent surge in tourists’ visits in first 11 months this year

    (MENAFN) The amount of foreign travelers who took a trip to Turkey increased 84.8 percent on a yearly basis to 42.2 million in the first 11 months of this year, as shown by official figures issued on Friday.

    The figure in the stated period reached an amount of 12 million two years ago and 22.8 million last year due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Culture and Tourism Ministry data indicated.

    Istanbul, Turkey’s most famous city and its biggest by population, was the highest draw for foreign tourists, drawing 14.7 million travelers.

    It was shadowed by the resort city of Antalya with 12.6 million travelers, whereas Edirne, a city in Turkey’s northwest neighboring Bulgaria and Greece, greeted 4.3 million tourists.

    At 5.5 million, Germans made up 13 percent of all tourists, followed by Russians at almost 5 million, Britons nearly 3.3 million, Bulgarians at about 2.6 million, as well as Iranians standing at 2.2 million.
