Iran's Horticulture Sector Experiences Export Growth Despite Natural Threats
(MENAFN) The horticulture sector in Iran saw export growth in the past Iranian calendar year 1401, despite natural threats to production, according to Mojtabi Shadlou, a board member of Iran's Gardeners Union. Iran is the largest producer of garden products in the region, and the chairman of the Iran Fruit Union, Reza Nourani, emphasized the necessity of adopting a policy to increase exports. Despite water scarcity and consecutive years of drought, Iran has the first place in the production of agricultural products in the region, according to Nourani.
The deputy agriculture minister for horticulture affairs, Mohammad-Mehdi Boroumandi, highlighted Iran's special position in the field of horticulture. He noted that all researchers believe that the advantage of Iran's agriculture sector is horticulture because it creates more employment and brings in good foreign currency income. Boroumandi also mentioned the renovation of gardens as one of the important programs of the ministry and emphasized the need to increase the country's agricultural production capacity.
Boroumandi pointed out the important role of farmers and gardeners in maintaining food security in Iran. He highlighted that, aside from four tropical fruits including bananas, coconuts, mangoes, and pineapples, the country is completely self-sufficient in providing other agricultural products. Despite natural threats to production, such as drought, Iran's horticulture sector has been able to maintain stability in terms of production, preventing disruption in the market.
Overall, Iran's horticulture sector has great potential for growth and is a significant contributor to the country's agricultural production and export industry. With a focus on renovating gardens and increasing production capacity, the government can continue to support this important sector and promote economic growth and stability in the country.
