Saudi Arabia, Netherlands Focus on Energy, Clean Hydrogen Cooperation

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands are strengthening their relationship and cooperation across multiple fields, with energy and clean hydrogen as a top priority. The Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman, and Dutch Foreign Minister, Wopke Hoekstra, recently met to discuss the possibility of using the port of Rotterdam as the gateway for clean hydrogen exports from Saudi Arabia to Europe. The meeting also touched on Saudi Arabia's local and regional initiatives, including the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, aimed at promoting clean energy and addressing climate change.

In addition to energy cooperation, the Dutch and Saudi ministers reviewed their countries' relations and discussed regional and international developments, including the Russian-Ukrainian war and international efforts to promote peace and security. Saud Al-Sati, Deputy Minister of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also attended the meeting. The Saudi and Dutch foreign ministers have met multiple times over the years, with the most recent meeting occurring on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 18th.

On May 31st, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, and Hoekstra had a phone call to discuss international efforts to salvage the oil tanker FSO Safer. The ship is currently moored 4.8 nautical miles off the coast of Yemen's Hodeidah governorate and has been deteriorating, posing the risk of a massive oil spill or explosion. The call highlights the ongoing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands on regional and international issues.
