New Shipping Service to Ease Traffic at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam
(MENAFN) According to the Saudi Press Agency, the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam will experience a relief in traffic congestion with the introduction of a new shipping service by Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Co. The Upper Gulf Express shipping service aligns with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub connecting continents. This service will connect Dammam with the ports of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr.
Launching at the end of May, the Upper Gulf Express service will not only improve connectivity but also strengthen the position of King Abdulaziz Port as a major gateway for international trade. It will enhance the port's reputation as the primary entry point for goods from various parts of the world. Earlier this year, the General Authority of Ports had already announced the commencement of a freight service at King Abdulaziz Port operated by Mediterranean Shipping Co. This connection has facilitated weekly sailings to eight maritime destinations, spanning the Arabian Gulf, South Asia, and Southern Africa.
By expanding its shipping services and establishing crucial links with neighboring ports, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance its logistical capabilities and strengthen its position as a key player in global trade. The new shipping service will not only facilitate smoother transportation of goods but also contribute to the realization of the country's long-term strategic objectives in the transport and logistics sector.
