International companies suspend operations in Egypt

(MENAFN) Several international companies are working on evacuating their staff from Egypt due to the unstable political conditions that the country is facing as protests escalate, reported The National. President of General Motors (GM) reported the automaker suspended works in its production unit near Cairo as it feared for the safety of its laborers. He said that even though the unit itself is safe, GM did not want its employees to be endangered while passing through Cairo to the unit. Abu Dhabi's Aabar, which has around ten percent stake of Daimler, reported that operations in the latter company were suspended as well in its Mercedes vehicles factory. Other companies that suspended operations include Nissan, Procter & Gamble, Heineken and AkzoNobel among others.
