Government discusses issuance of single UAE cruise visa

(MENAFN) The Director of overseas promotions at Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Saleh Mohammad Al Geziry, said that the government is negotiating the issuance of a single UAE cruise visa in an attempt to ease the immigration process and encourage tourism, reported Gulf News. Al Geziry said that the current cruise visa system forces cruise ship passengers to acquire a different visa for each UAE port they land in, which is considered a problem that is discoursing tourists to go on cruises from the UAE. According to the policy, tourists must purchase 3 separate visas which cost USD240 a visitor. However, business visitors are given multiple-entry visas, also travelers from 33 countries, including all GCC states, the United Kingdom and United States are issued free visas once they arrive, Al Geziry added. It is worth noting that the cruise industry is still growing in the UAE, in spite of the complicated cruise visa system. 575,000 passengers are expected by 2015, compared with 325,000 passengers during the 2009-10 seasons.
