GCC considers fund to help Bahrain, Oman

(MENAFN) An official at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) said that Gulf Arab officials are in talks about giving a financial aid to Bahrain and Oman in order to ease the unrest driven by some economic issues in those 2 countries, reported Gulf News. The Gulf "Marshall Plan" to help Manama and Muscat requires a large financial contribution by the 4 wealthier GCC member states. The economic issues prompting the unrest in the 2 Gulf countries include housing shortage and unemployment. It is worth noting that demonstrations spreading across the Middle East region are focused on greater accountability and a more direct political participation in government by the people.
