Qtel to increase stake in Tunisiana

(MENAFN) Qatar Telecom's (Qtel) director, Abdullah Al Thani, said that the company would raise its 75 percent stake it had in Tunisian mobile operator Tunisiana, reported Arabian Business. Al Thani added that in the first half of 2011, Tunisiana had plans to list its shares on Tunis stock exchange; nevertheless, the plans were postponed due to the political upheaval in the country which had a negative impact on the investment climate. He also said that Qtel owned half of Tunisiana, while the other half was owned by two Tunisian businessmen close to the old regime, but the Tunisian government seized their stake. It is worth noting that former president Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali's son in low and another businessman linked to the Ben Ali family owned the two minority stakes in Tunisiana.
