Saudization decree for retailers to create 1.5m jobs for Saudi women

(MENAFN) Saudi labor ministry undersecretary for labor affairs, Ahmed Al Humeidan, said that in order to reduce the high jobless rate amongst Saudi women, a royal decree was issued to provide around 1.5 million jobs for women by replacing all salesmen with females at women clothes shops especially those at lingerie, reported Emirates 24/7. AL Humeidan added that the decree would take effect this July, adding that shops that wouldn't conform to the decree would be subjected to punishment; moreover, since some shop owners complained that the period was too short, the deadline date could be extended. He also said that the Riyadh chamber of commerce and industry sent a letter to all women clothes shops and businesses in order to begin replacing salesmen with Saudi women within a month, in addition to providing the chamber with job details available for Saudi women, work timings and the function of each job. It is worth noting that as a result of rapid growth in the Kingdom's population and low economic growth in some years, Saudi is suffering from high jobless rate, last year, it stood at 10.5 percent but the rate among women was far higher, standing at 26.6 percent.
