    Saudi Marafiq plans to boost power output

    (MENAFN) Marafiq's CEO, Thamer Al-Sharhan, said that the Middle East's largest utility company planned to boost power output by 2014 to meet higher demand from industry in Yanbu, Reuters reported. Al-Sharhan added that electricity output would be raised by 2,500 megawatt, moreover, Yanbu I, the existing power plant was undergoing an expansion to increase its capacity to 1,500 MW from 1,000 MW now, whereas the commercial start-up would be expected in July of next year. He also said that the cost of Yanbu II project would be estimated to reach USD1.6 billion, adding that the main aim of the projest was to produce 750 MW of power and 60,000 cubic meters per day of water. It is worth noting that Marafiq serves the two main industrial hubs in Yanbu and Jubail, home to petrochemical and refining facilities.
