MENA's political unrest hampers Italy's Costa Cruises business

(MENAFN) Costa Cruises' President, Gianni Onorato, said that the company's business was negatively affected by the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's political upheaval, which reduced the number of tourists notably and halved the company's routes , reported Gulf News. Onorato added that the firm had to revise around 300 routes out of the total 650, a step which harmed Costa Crusies' financial results during 2011, moreover, the company had to cancel Tunisia and Egypt from its 2012 program even though political tensions began to lessen. He also said that the company's fleet included 15 ships, and offered cruises to more than 250 destinations, however, Costa Cruises had to search for new ports and routes that avoided areas like Egypt and Tunisia. It is worth noting that Costa Cruises will bring Costa Favolosa, the company's largest cruise ship to the UAE the next winter. The Favolosa will be able to hold 3,800 guests and will make 22 port calls in the country.
