    Saudi Arabia to implement new desal projects

    (MENAFN) Fehaid Al-Sharief, Saline Water Conversion Corporation governor, unveiled lately a number of desalination projects under construction, Arab News reported. He said that the projects are implemented at atotal cost of USD10.66 billion, citing projects such as building pipelines at a cost of USD6.66 billion, and Ras Alkhair and Yanbu Al-Madinah plants and a power generation plant. Al-Shareif also unveiled plans to make use of solar energy to generate power required for desal plants, adding that the move would help save electricity, petrol and gas. It is worth mentioning that SWCC operates more than 30 desal plants on the Red Sea and the Gulf, and a supply network covering over 4,000 km. With a supply of 3.3 million cubic meters daily of desalinated water, Saudi Arabia is the world's largest desal water producer, accounting for 18 percent of the world production.
