Kuwait- Detention of 59 in Bedoun protests extended

(MENAFN - Arab Times) The detention of 59 participants in Bedoun demonstrations in Taima and Sulaibiya was extended Tuesday for another 14 days, while two suspects were released. This came after the Public Prosecution ordered the suspects' arrest and detention for 21 days to interrogate them on the alleged attack of security officers during the demonstrations. The prosecution also charged them with damaging public properties, participating in illegal gathering, and defying police dispersal orders. Meanwhile, Head of the Capital Governorate Public Prosecution Professor Rajib Al-Rajib ordered the detention of 12 of those accused of participating in illegal Bedoun demonstrations, including Fourth Constituency candidate Dr Fahad Samawi Al-Dhufairi, in addition to the arrest of five others as investigations on the case continue. According to Attorney Ahmad Al-Nashmi, Al-Dhufairi, along with his lawyers, headed to the Public Prosecution immediately after being summoned, but the prosecution refused to look into the case unless it is presented to the criminal investigators. He then surrendered to the investigators who referred him to the Justice Palace for questioning. It has been reported that Al-Dhufairi suffered health problems during the interrogation, so he was taken to Amiri Hospital.
