UAE's Etihad to raise fuel surcharge on EU flights

(MENAFN) UAE's Etihad Airways said that it would raise fuel surcharge on its European flights, reported Emirates 24/7. The carrier added that the move, which would take effect for travel from March 1, 2012, came to compensate the costs that were imposed on the company by the European Union (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). It also said that flights into and out of Europe would witness an increase of USD3 per passenger, whereas cargo shipments would be raised by USD0.03 cents/kg. It is worth noting that the charges were calculated based on the additional cost to the carrier for the carbon credits it will be required to buy for the current year in order to comply with the EU ETS.
