S Korea's Kepco hopes to build additional UAE nuclear plants

(MENAFN) South Korea Electric Power Corp (Kepco) said that the company would hold discussions with the UAE to set up additional 4 nuclear power plants by 2021, reported Gulf News. The company added that at the current time, it is constructing four reactors in the Gulf country, where its team would design, establish and help operate the 1,400-megawatt nuclear power units, and put the value of the deal for construction, commissioning and fuel loads at nearly USD20 billion. It also said that in case regulatory approval was received by the third quarter of the current year, the firm might begin building the first plant in the fourth quarter. It is worth noting that Abu Dhabi has selected a group of South Korean firms to set up the UAE's first nuclear power stations, in an effort to become the first Arab country to exploit atomic energy on a commercial scale.
