Gaza exports clothes for first time since 2006

(MENAFN) Palestinian coordinator for commercial movement in the Gaza Strip, Raed Fattouh, stated that for the first time in 6 years, Gaza-made garments are exported to overseas markets, reported Xinhua News. Fattouh said that Israeli authorities gave their permission to clothes' manufacturers in the Strip to sell their products outside Gaza, adding that a truck loaded with garments, including 1,000 pieces of wool, was exported through the Israeli Seaport of Ashdod, and then will be transferred to GB Williams, the UK clothing firm. On the other hand, he noted that in 2011 and during the current year, Israel has permitted Palestinians in Gaza to export strawberries, flowers, carnations, vegetables and garments. It is worth noting that in 2006, Israel forced a tight blockade on the Gaza Strip after Hamas movement seized control of the coastal enclave.
