    Dubai International posts 10.4% rise in May's passenger traffic

    (MENAFN) Dubai Airports' CEO, Paul Griffiths, stated that Dubai International recorded a 10.4-percent annual increase in passenger traffic in May, reported Emirates 24/7. Griffiths added that 4,388,614 passengers passed the airport during the month, compared with 3,976,633 passengers during last year's same period. He said that aircraft movements rose 5 percent from the 26,969 movements recorded in 2011 to 28,304 aircraft movements. Moreover, cargo handled in May fell 0.1 percent to 187,638 tons, compared with 187,905 tons in last year's same month. On the other hand, passenger traffic during the January-May period jumped 13.2 percent to 23,216,893 passengers, from 20,502,009 passengers in 2011's same period. Aircraft movements in the first 5 months grew 7.2 percent to 142,821, from 133,271 in the same period a year ago, and freight volume was up by 1.4 percent, reaching 891,464 tons, compared with 879,359 tons in 2011. It is worth noting that the biggest gain in total passenger numbers was recorded in the AGCC, with a rise of 105,052 passengers, followed by Africa, which posted an increase of 61,306 passengers and Western Europe, which reported a 57,602-passenger growth.
