Baghdad blacklists Total on Kurdistan deals

(MENAFN) Iraqi government placed French energy giant Total on blacklist after it signed agreements to develop oil in Kurdistan region, Reuters reported. Total announced on Tuesday it had agreed to buy a stake in two blocks in the region, angering Baghdad. Abdul-Mahdy al-Ameedi, director of the Oil Ministry's contracts directorate, said that Baghdad is working to cancel Total's stake in the Halfaya contract, adding that the central government will do the same to any company that signs deals with Kurdistan without the approval of the ministry. Total has an 18.75 percent stake in the operation under a year contract signed with the central Iraq government in 2010. In June, Total and its partners PetroChina and Petronas started production at Halfaya oilfield.
