    Sudan's first gold refinery officially launched

    (MENAFN) Sudan's Minister of Minerals, Kamal Abdul- Latif, announced that as the country witnesses a boom in the mining industry, President Omar al- Bashir officially launched the Gold Refinery, reported Xinhua News. Abdul-Latif said that the construction of the refinery, the country's first of its kind, followed a partnership between the central bank and the mineral and finance ministries. Gold Refinery's director, Mohamed Hassan Osman, said that the environment-friendly refinery, which will have a production capacity of 300kg per 8 hours, is the second in Africa for producing and extracting gold and silver with high quality and purity. It comprises 4 divisions, the gold and silver refining divisions, a division for converting large bars into small bars, and another for assaying. It is worth noting that the project is expected to shore up the country's economy, create job opportunities for the Sudanese and develop the mining operations.
