    Algeria posts USD19.73b trade surplus in Jan-Aug

    (MENAFN) Algerian Customs' National Center for Statistics and Data (CNIS) announced that during the January-August period, the country's trade balance posted a surplus of USD19. 73 billion, up from USD15.1 billion in 2011's same period, reported Xinhua News. The CNIS said that during the aforementioned period, exports rose 4.62 percent, reaching USD49.8 billion, whereas imports fell 7.4 percent to USD30.06 billion. It noted that the country's oil exports grew 5 percent in the first 8 months of the year, adding that non-hydrocarbon exports reached USD1.32 billion, while exports of oil and gas were at USD48.4 billion dollars. It is worth noting that Algeria's imports of foodstuffs, agriculture and industrial equipment kept declining during the period.
