    Kuwait's inflation up 1.9% in Sep y/y

    (MENAFN) The Kuwait Central Statistical Office announced that last month's Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up by 1.9 percent from a year ago, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The agency said that the CPI, a main measure of inflation, rose by 0.2 percent from August. In September, basic food prices gained 3.8 percent from last year's same period, while prices of meat, chicken and fish edged up by 0.1 percent. Prices of tea and coffee grew 1.6 percent; whereas prices of fruits and vegetable were up by 0.1 percent, other foods rose by 0.3 percent and sugar and oil by 1 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. On the other hand, prices of cereals and bread fell 0.5 percent, and prices of dairy products and eggs increased 0.9 percent. In the month, prices of clothes and footwear in the Gulf emirate went up by 2.7 percent, educational and health services rose by 1.7 percent. It is worth noting that prices of other commodities and services grew 1.8 percent last month from a year ago, whereas beverages and tobacco increased 5.4 percent, transports gained 1.4 percent, and prices of household commodities and services posted a growth of 1.8 percent.
