Swiss ABB commissions 3 substations at Saudi KSAU-HS

(MENAFN) Swiss-based power group ABB has commissioned three substations to supply electricity to a new bus network and enable emission-free transportation for students, staff and visitors at the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS ) in Riyadh, Arabian Business reported. The new university spans five sq km and will be served by a trolley bus system comprising 10 stations each with two platforms. The buses operate on separate bus lines and are fed by a 9km long catenary line. Priority control at crossroads to other streets helps ensure smooth and efficient traffic and passenger movement. ABB has built three converter substations that transform the AC power from the local utility network to the DC power needed to run the trolley buses. ABB said it was responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the substations. KSAU-HS is the first public university in the region, specialising in health sciences and is located in the eastern part of the capital city Riyadh.
