ME carriers post 12.4% traffic growth in Oct: IATA

(MENAFN) The International Air Transport Association's (IATA) director general and CEO, Tony Tyler, said that Middle East carriers posted a traffic growth of 12.4 percent in October, reported Arabian Business. Tyler said that capacity climbed by 12.1 percent in the period, whereas load factor edged up 0.2 percent to 75 percent. Moreover, cargo traffic jumped 13.4 percent, with capacity up 8.6 percent, and load factor growing to 45.4 percent. Tyler noted that the passenger and cargo figures for airlines in the region show that they posted the best performance amongst other carriers worldwide. It is worth noting that demand for air travel is hampered by slowing global trade and weak business sentiment, whereas the impact of Hurricane Sandy hit US domestic and North Atlantic travel.
