Oman's power demands to grow by 10 percent

(MENAFN) Oman's average 2013-2020 power demand is projected to increase by 10 percent annually, rising from 2.592 megawatt in 2013 to 5.023 megawatt in 2020, Times of Oman said.

Meanwhile, the peak demand growth is expected to be about 11 percent per year, rising from 4.455 megawatt in 2013 to reach 9.133 megawatt in 2020.

This growth in demand is attributed to many reasons including the country's growing population, which reached 4 million in March of this year and it is projected to grow by another 2.4 million between 2015 and 2040.

Other reasons for the continued high growth in demand for electricity can be attributed to rising personal income levels, new houses and continued government investment in infrastructure projects.
