(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's Electricity and Co-Generation Regulatory Authority (ECRA) announced that the Saudi-Egyptian Electricity Grid project is almost done, Saudi Gazette reported.
The project will allow both Saudi Arabia and Egypt to generate and share an additional 3.000 megawatts of electricity via 20-kilometer underwater cable crossing the Gulf of Aqaba.
The project will allow Egypt will transfer electricity to the Kingdom during the latter's peak consumption times in the afternoon, with Saudi Arabia doing the same for Egypt during its peak consumption times in the evening.
Meanwhile, ECRA announced it has made great progress in the domestic electricity linkage sector, particularly in its electricity grid connecting Riyadh and Jeddah, which is currently under construction and will be complete in 2017, marking this high-voltage line, the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia and with a loading capacity of 3.000 Megawatts.
