4.4m tourists visit Egypt in H1
(MENAFN) Eastern European countries are expected to be the highest number of tourists visiting Egypt during the January-June period of 2014, reaching 1.9 million visitors to Egypt and representing 45.1 percent of total tourists visiting the country during that period, Saudi Gazette reported.
Western European countries came in second, with 1.4 million tourists visiting Egypt which accounted for 31.9 percent of the total number, while approximately 700.000 tourists visited Egypt from Arab countries, representing 16 percent of the total number of tourists.
In terms of countries, Russia topped the list of tourists during the first half of 2014, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, Ukraine, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Poland, and Libya, with the total number of tourists visiting Egypt reaching 4.4 million, down by 25.4 percent compared to the same period in 2013.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism said tourism income, which accounts for 11.3 percent of GDP and employs approximately 3.8 million individuals in Egypt, decreased to USD5.9 billion last year, declining by 41 percent.
