Emirates expands Africa reach with Angola deal
(MENAFN) Emirates announced it has signed a ten-year management agreement with TAAG Angola Airlines (Linhas Aereas De Angola), the national carrier of Angola, which is expected to strengthen its position in Africa, Gulf News reported.
The management deal would allow Emirates to appoint four senior executives to oversee the restructuring of the state-owned African airline but the carrier will not be financing the Angola Airlines with any funds.
The deal is also set to give the Middle East's largest airline a greater access to the world's second most populous continent, as well as increase its network of African destinations, which currently amounts to 22 destinations.
"Emirates will continue growing our presence in Africa by opening new routes, increasing flight frequencies, and upgrading aircraft to meet the increasing demand. Exploring mutually beneficial agreements with established carriers such as TAAG Linhas Aereas De Angola is another key strategy," Chief Executive of Emirates Airlines said.
