Qatar tourist numbers up 8 percent in H1
(MENAFN) According to Qatar Tourism Authority, the number of visitors coming to the country increased by 8 percent to more than 1.4 million during the January-June period of this year, Arabian Business reported.
The Tourism Authority said that more than half a million of those were GCC nationals, with the number of visitors reaching 536,264 people, which is 38 percent of total tourists.
During the first half of this year, the average hotel occupancy rate rose to 74 percent compared to 67 percent for the same period last year, while the revenue at four and five star hotels increased by 4 percent, reaching USD532.32 million.
"This report demonstrates Qatar's progress toward becoming a developed and sustainable tourism destination. Confidence in Qatar's tourism sector remains buoyant and our efforts continue to bear fruit in terms of promoting and developing the sector," Chief Tourism Development Officer at QTA said.
