ME passenger numbers up 15.8 percent in September
(MENAFN) According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the number of passengers travelling with Middle East carriers increased by 15.8 percent in September compared to last year, Gulf News reported.
"Airlines in the Middle East continue to benefit from the strength of regional economies as well as expansion in export orders that support international business activity and business-related premium travel," IATA said.
Middle East passenger capacity also registered an increase, growing by 14.9 percent in September, while the number of seats filled was up to reach 78 percent.
On the other hand, the global average increased by 5.3 percent in September compared to September 2013, but it was down compared to August's rate an increase by 6.3 percent.
Globally, Asia Pacific airlines reported the second strongest passenger growth during September, going up by 4.8 percent compared to the same period last year, though it was below compared the capacity, which increased by 7.2 per cent, while Africa airlines recorded the weakest growth among regions, with a growth by 1.8 percent.
