Dubai's DEWA, ABB sign deal for power project
(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced signing a deal with energy firm ABB for the development of a pilot solar power project, which is expected to connect DEWA's grid through a low-voltage distribution board, Gulf Business reported.
DEWA said that this project will support the Smart Dubai initiative, as well as help in connecting the electricity produced from solar power to its grid, thus assisting in Dubai's plan to diversify its energy generation, which plans to produce up to 5 percent of its electricity from renewables by 2030.
The diversifying plan thus far have resulted in opening a 13 megawatts (MW) power plant, with a production capacity of 1,000MW of clean energy using PV and solar thermal technology upon completion, and expectations that the emirate is willing to spend USD100 million in adding 50MW of solar-power capacity by the time it hosts the World Expo 2020.
"DEWA is committed to enhancing partnerships and collaborating with the public and private sectors and local and international organizations to further improve the services it provides to the public, as well as its operational processes according to the highest levels of availability, reliability and efficiency," CEO of DEWA said.
