ME cargo volume up 13 percent in October

(MENAFN) According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the amount of cargo handled by the Middle East carriers registered an increase by 13 percent in October compared to the same month a year earlier, Gulf News reported.

The association said that the increase is the result of the region's carriers capturing the market share in Africa, Central America and Asia Pacific, which led them to register the biggest increase in comparison with the rest of the region.

IATA also said that the capacity for the region's cargo operators rose by 15.8 percent, while globally, the air cargo increased by 5.4 percent compared to the same month last year as well as being higher than September's increase of 4.8 percent

In terms of other regions, Africa saw the second highest increase of cargo handled, as it grew by 9.6 per cent, despite capacity declining 2.4 percent, while Asia Pacific handled 6.7 percent more cargo and its capacity rose 5.7 percent and Europe recorded the lowest growth by just 1.4 percent, however, this could have been partially driven by the 4.4 per cent increase in capacity in October.
