    Qatar's value of completed projects hits USD21.95b in 2013

    (MENAFN) Qatar's Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said that the total of 9.213 projects have been completed in 2013, with an estimated worth USD21.95 billion, with projects focused on buildings, electricity, water desalination, and roads and bridges accounting for maximum number of the country's completed projects, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

    The ministry said that almost 3.225 projects, with a collective value of estimated USD13.17 billion, were completed under the government sector, while private sector completed 5.592 projects at a total value of USD7.13 billion.

    In 2013, 3.467 projects were completed in the construction of buildings, with an estimated worth of USD9.33, while USD2.38 billion were spent on 342 roads and bridges projects and USD2.71 billion were allocated for 557 projects in electricity generation and water desalination sectors.

    Meanwhile, a total of 51 pipeline projects in the oil and gas sector were completed during the year, in addition to 6 other projects, which were related to the drilling oil and gas wells, while another 51 projects were completed in the ports and harbor sector with a value of USD 265.10 million.

    Qatar's infrastructure sector is expected to continue with its growth, with the country expected to spend USD182 billion on its infrastructure projects over the next five year, with Qatar expected to spend USD24 billion to key projects, including the completing Hamad International Airport, the New Doha Port Project, the rail and metro projects, and the roads program.
