(MENAFN) Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) said that it has awarded a joint venture between Qatar's Boom Construction Company said it and CAT International Qatar a contract for the project of developing pipelines for a mega reservoirs around Doha, with a total value of the project estimated to stand at USD247.1 million, Arabian Business reported.
Kahramaa said that this project is part of the country's plan, which was announced earlier this year, of investing USD884 million on projects to more than double its water supply and boost reserves.
This plan has so far included awarding five projects worth a total value of USD884.01 million, which are expected to boost the country's reserves by 126 percent to 561 million gallons and will be built in Duhail, Umm Qarn, Mesaimeer, South Doha and Muathier, as well as new reservoirs at existing stations.
The corporation said that these projects are expected to be ready by the end of 2017 and that they would be powered by electricity generated by solar panels.
